I was sure you could have a text file in your files area that will be sent
to new members, and also one for declined requests....

I have to say that I am having a similar problem, but a couple of the
groups I moderate are not even ukha specific (ePODs for example) so
there is no way I can identify a person. However the actual 'spamming'
profiles have been fairly easy to spot, so far. They tend to have a
completely meaningless name, an equally obscure email address and often
have lots of obscure (pornographic) interests listed against their
profile. The blank profile or one with minimal information is no
indication of potential spamming.

The only possible additional precaution you could take, and this may be
the best approach, is to set newly approved members to have moderated
posts until you are happy they are genuine.
