Not so much experimental but quite convoluted and time consuming. There
is a point and click application (TivoApp) that uses the TivoWeb
application running on the TiVo to produce a list of the recorded
programs on the TiVo in a Windows application on the PC. Downloading
the
video stream to the PC is a simple matter of highlighting the recording
required and selecting extract. This initiates the transfer of the data
across the LAN and voila you have a file on your PC.
The problem arises in that there are three formats you can select
within
TivoApp:
Tystream - the Tivo format which is non standard
Mpeg - Sort of standard mpeg
Split - produces separate video and audio files for multiplexing
>From my experiments the only way I can produce stable extracts is to
use
Tystream to get the file on the PC then use various tools to split the
file, convert the audio to wav, then multiplex them together. This
process is definitely not point and click :-) However, the results are
excellent. The Mpeg setting from TivoApp only allows you to view in
PowerDVD (but not always) and I've never been able to cut a VCD or SVCD
>from
this. The Tystream method does appear to be rock solid but I need to do
some more testing.
I'll be producing a detailed guide on the process for the ukha's who
are
getting the TurboNet cards as part of the bulk buy.
