You can always output to VCR if you want. There is always video
extraction
via TurboNet and cut a VCD or SVCD, or even cut a DVD - How cool is that

i think that means you can't share programmes you have recorded
and others may have missed ? 

I like this discussion on tivo and showshifter. it is better than any
review.
we get to find out what both products can and cannot do so one
can make a semi-well informed choice.

Ahem, if your friend had got him/herself a Tivo then it would have
recorded Eastenders automatically :P
