Last night I upgraded to IE6, I had not run outlook express at all
after logging in but a few moments later an icon appeared in my
system tray  (the Outlook envelope with blue arrows) telling me I had
new mail. I was quite shocked...

Have you got IE6 installed? If so it could be that - this has
CERTAINLY started happening to me after the IE6 install... It's lucky
that I actually noticed it...
