            I have dvd writer so have the option of dvd or vcd.
            backwards has to be vcr not vcd,svcd or dvd :-)

                  VCD is pretty grim.  You're gonna need two discs to record a movie, get up in the middle and change them over, all a bit of a step backwards.  Most people I know don't have DVD players, let alone DVD players that read CD-Rs.

                  why would you want to watch vcd on a pc
                        when you can play it in a dvd player and watch on your tv :-)
