Hardwired IR is the way to go if possible, I used to use a Powermid
but .. well they aren't so good are they....

At the moment I'm actually using Homevision to control my
amp/VCR/TV ... in combination with (another plug) HomeAutomator ..
the interface nneds to be right tho if SWMBO is going to use it, so
the prontos stick around while it's being developed..

The theory for Homevision is simple - each zone is effectively the
equipment for one room, providing you don't have more than one of the
same piece of kit FOR THE SAME ZONE there should be no problems. It
is infact a good idea to have the same kit for different zones - so
that homevision only has to learn one set of IR for all zones.. the
problem I will run into is IR storage in Homevision...
