You could make a safe system for the iron by using the live feed to the iron
to also hold in an AC relay that switched the feed to the module. When the
module switched off it would also switch its live (and thus communication)
feed off. Switching on would probably need a double pole switch to
momentarily connect the live feed to the module, and to trigger it to on
(thus pulling the AC relay back in again)
