I've had first hand experience with this.
I got 2 Sky+ boxes.  One of them suffered from the symptoms very soon
after
purchase.  Sky were quick to swap it.  The other box has recently
failed.
The replacement has been OK, but occasionally changes channel for no
apparent reason!
When working Sky+ is excellent though :o)
