Just had a thought. As an alternative to drilling in a microswitch would a
reed & magnet on the bottom of the door not do?

Even a surface mount alarm window sensor should be useable. Copydex on for
testing then use something stronger if necessary once tested, should easily
interface into HV or comfort or any timer & you can get very small reeds.
Could tune it for best spacing before finalising to.
