RE: Freezer Alarm

Yeah I sussed, all I was pointing out was that usually by the time the alarm comes on it’s really too late! Stupid pointless idea actually putting an alarm on the thing and having people rely on it! A *far* better idea is the “door-open” buzzer that is fitted to a lot of integrated appliances, basically a buzzer that goes nuts if the door isn’t fully closed inside a couple of minutes or so.

We get calls all the time from people asking us to be at a freezer failure and customers expect you there within the hour, but as I said, if you notice that the food is defrosting the best thing you can do is salvage what you can as it could be dangerous to re-freeze it depending on the type of food, ambient temp, length of time above -15C and the original condition. So, as you can see it’s far easier to tell the lay-person, use it or lose it! ;-)

Ken

I think Mark was refering to monitoring the Freezer lite say with a lite sensor or something similar.

Don is it integrated or freestanding?

BTW, if the alarm light comes on then the temp has already, on most
machines, risen to above -15C and the food has already started to
perish!!

-18C is the optimum temp for food storage and most machines cycle
between -15C and -21C to give an average -18C so, basically if you
notice that the food is soft it's out with the big frying pan! ;-)
