Andy,

How are you transmitting the IR from HV ?
Mini Emitter or an IR Blaster.

It could be that the IR signal is too strong and is swamping the receiver in
the Sony.

Try moving it further away, if that does the trick then you need to add a
resistor in series with the IR emitter to reduce the current and therefore
the intensity of the IR.

Start with a 1K resistor and work down.
