I have to say I agree with most of the opinions here in that I do not
see how, any reasonable person, can see BT Internet or any other
service
that has a finite time restriction on it as being anything other than a
metered connection and that it is misleading in the way it is
presented.
Most of the advertising claims "no more internet phone bills"
which to
me implies that the dial-up/call costs are therefore included in the
price. It is only when you start to read the small print that it
becomes
clear that there are definitions and restrictions put on the
"unmetered"
statement.
As Phil has as well, I have net access, more or less, 24/7 due to my
current ISP and HH I would love ADSL, I would pay for ADSL but I cannot
get ADSL. I would have cable, but I can't get that either so I have no
option but to bodge up a solution. Satellite is not an option IMO, too
slow, too flaky and too expensive for what it is.
I also do not download large files, other than UKHA mail, the
connection
is for convenience and not for massive downloads. Should any
ISP/provider wish to say something like, if you download more than
100Mb
a week then we will take some action on capping the service I could
fully understand that. Unfortunately, the reality is that everyone
would
suffer and we would get stuck with the 5Gb limit a month or something
like that.
But what happens when the technology does move on and we do have
streaming TV/Audio from the net, more so than we do now...if it cannot
cope now how will it in the future?
The other point to be made is that many companies financial models now
include a 24/7 connection, where are they if they cannot get that to
more than the crap ADSL coverage we have at present?
