Ahhh but you have to suggest the completely unfeasible to the wife (and obviously expect her to say no) then you give in graciously as then you're more likely to get her to say yes to something only mildly wierd by comparison.
 
For example ... I don't want a 1.5m wide clock in the living room - especially when it could probably be heard outside the house ticking away - but I would like a keyless door lock and that sounds far more sensible when proposed after the clock!

Check this out on the Display Electronics website. Saw this in Every Day with Practical Electronics but here is a complete BR clock. Wish I had the cash to buy one as this would be ausome.
