This sounds like a better solution
than
the rough and ready map that I did.
The problem with the existing map is that you have no idea really
who is
which blob, and it just becomes something of interest as to the number of
blobs
near you.
Now I reckon if you can crack the
communication piece then your idea below will be a winner, not just for
this
group but any of the many other internet 'helpful' groups that
exist.

The database at http://consume.net
does this quite well. Jasper
(jasper@xxxxxxx) wrote the code, and if
you're lucky, he may share it.
It's a php front end, not sure hat's behind it
though.
