I can remember seeing a Phillips set circa 1973 that had a single B&W monitor on the control panel.

I can also remember seeing a remote control Dynatron set about the same tim= e
that had a wired remote control that could adjust everything colour,
brightness, contrast, volume and channel when other makes only had
Ultrasonic remotes that could change channel. They effectively had a
xylaphone inside them, pressing the clonky button struck a metal bar that emitted untrasonic frequencies picked up by the TV. At least they never
suffered from flat batteries :-)

POP (Picture outside picture) is much better. Some W/S sets will show a 4:3=
picture with 3 smaller 4:3 pictures to the side of the main picture.

Can never understand why PIP or POP hasnt caught on in this country.
I would use it MUCH more than teletext.

Does anyone else remember seeing a multi-tube TV in the mid-late 70s?
I saw it in Harrods; someting like a 26" colour set, with four small (maybe 5"?) black & white tubes arranged below the main screen. Th= e
idea was you could preview the other channels and switch one to the
main screen at will. Of course, this was before we even had 4
channels, and I suspect just about the time VHS & Betamax were being launched in the UK.

I suspect the practical problem with PIP is the irritation it would
cause SWMBO popping up in just the wrong place at just the wrong
time. Almost as bad as those damned onscreen graphics so prevalent
