Just to clarify that this it is not a HomeVision problem as such and the below post seems to put the blame there. It is functioning correctly and the error is caused by it responding so fast. Unfortunately I think you found this out the hard way but you got there !
A number of external X10 'transmitting' devices exist which have extra intelligence incorporated into the way they transmit data, known as collision detection. Because X10 is inherently both slow and unreliable collisions are inevitable. In an effort to minimise this these intelligent devices monitor the powerline when they transmit and read the data back checking that it matches what was sent. In addition data is sent twice, which should of course cause no problem. However HV sees the first transmission and reacts sending its programmed response which effectively collides with the second transmission from the intelligent device causing it to think it failed so it sends the whole lot again which creates the endless loops you are seeing.
There are two ways around this - the best as you have deduced is to introduce a delay before HV responds - this is what most people do. Some others have a flag to make sure that a HV macro cannot be triggered twice in rapid succession..
The intelligent devices are amongst others the TM12 RF transceiver and the external motion detector / lamp system.  I know because I had this happen too.

Yep, after much playing over the weekend I ended up with the same value.
I'm now trying to solve other problems. Hope it makes up for this in it's
stability :-)

>>I have rectified this by putting a delay 1 second at the top of the code
and all works OK.

I have now dropped the delay to 0.1 secs and it still works fine.

Must have missed that one - probably didn't read because it was about a toy
I
didn't have :)

Well it seems to have solved the problem. Many thanks - sanity returns...
