Unfortunately I arrived late after three hours travelling and missed the food and most of this demo so I cannot really say. I dare say I will see it soon and will let you know.

I don't know for a fact but if you take the longest available serial lead as a guide you won't be too far out.

No idea on the 485 front as I build my own serial or USB to 485 cards. Last month there was a serial to 485 board as a project complete with PIC code and everything in Elector Electronics (photo copies availably, just ask). The only tricky bit was the PCB as you could not buy it. Let me know if you want to pursue it as I was thinking of building one of these for myself.

p.s. it was a brill evening and despite trying we could not blow up the relay board from my site (www.mollyology.com).

No harm done. I must admit I was pretty impressed with what you managed to achieve J

Hi Tim

I have successfully ran 485 at 9600 bps on 10,000 feet of screened twisted pair in an umbilical with 90Vdc on the power cores with only the occasional lost packet (use a CRC based telemetry and you will be ok)

2 Questions.

Firstly what is the maximum length for reliable 232 connections at 9600 baud

Is there a cheap source of 482 PCI cards – in case 1 above is not enough!

Tim.
