Actually, beneath the (very well written, sir) rhetoric, you make a good point. However, I think your argument below probably leans towards Ian's suggestion that a standard implementation of Linux would be a good idea.

Why don't we put a bit more flesh around _that_ idea, and write to our MPs?

Verging on a decent analogy, in fact...children are very adaptable &
flexible little creatures, show them two different Oses and they'll accept
them both, and learn them both.  It's what they will have to do with foreign
languages in secondary school, introducing them in a gentle way to the
concept of same-thing-but-different would be very beneficial.  The only
problem is that the NSPCC really should be called in if children are ever
made to do any networking with Windows, that's inhumane cruelty.  I mean,
look what most of you chaps put yourselves through daily, if you believe
this list. And that tricky time when the Wintel box has "caught a bad cold"
will need some explaining :-))

Oh, and come on the Arsenal!
