Ah, I said passive heatsink! The Zalmans are very nice BUT they need the fan
that comes with them to work effectively.

Thinking back the old Dell Heatsink was approx. 3x the surface area of the
CPU and was 3-4cm tall. And that was for a P2. For an Athlon/P4 it'd need to
be bigger.

The smaller stuff for the mobo/graphics card, I'm going to look into as the
mobo fan is making a nasty noise on startup of on my main PC. Ta for that!

I remember taking an old Dell apart several years ago, it was admittedly
a
p2-200 and being stunned at the *HUGE* passive heatsink it had cooling
the
CPU, which was barely above room temp. It only had a single small fan in
the
PSU.

I've always wondered why some company can't make a *HUGE* passive
retrofit
heatsink for ?40-50, I'm sure they'd flog loads of 'em!
