No, it's OK through my creative !

It's the Via onboard chipset that doesnt work correctly.

Yes i think i have, what OS ? if its w2k there is a driver problem, the OS does not support AC3 pass through its up to the driver to find a way round this, the problem was there when your SBLive card came out the original drivers would not give AC3 pass through on a W2k box although this was fixed with a driver update.

I think i got details of the probelm from the creative website, it might sill have some notes there even though the driver now works ok

if you are not on w2k sorry for the wild goose chase. Also the drivers usualy have a check box to enable pass through although I have no expereance with yout boards.

Here's one - it's happening on both a Abit KT7 and the new Via MiniITX board (both with onboard Via Sound chips)

Both have onboard S/PDIF ports (Abit has Optical, Via has Coax). Sound works fine through it - the Amp detects it as PCM. If I play an AC3 encoded AVI, and select S/PDIF, still only get PCM sound. I've tried PowerDVD 4 too - same thing.

The same AVI played through my main system, which has an SBLive with optical/coax out DOES work fine - and the Amp detect a AC3 bitstream.

Anyone come across this ?
