I can guarantee you you don't.  NetBIOS is what's required for Windows
networking.  The machine I'm on now is on a network with a variety of
machines on.  We have Win95/98/NT4/2k/XP plus Mac and Linux.  I have only
TCP/IP with NetBIOS bound to it (default on WinNT4).  I can browse other
machines with no problems, and network neighbourhood works fine (except when
we run out of SBS licenses - Microsoft don't sell them for NT4 anymore).
