I think X10 is probably the simple way to go for the moment, given that I
don't want to rip the house apart completely to put in another system type.
And as you say, it's also cheaper - I'm in Vectra country too!

I'm going to discuss normal alarms with my brother - he's the
alarm/electronics expert in our family, and can source components fairly
cheaply.

I'll give regular updates on my progress.
