SQL 7.  But revisiting your SQL sample I see where I went wrong, I forgot
to declare my cursor as LOCAL so it was visable outside the current
instance of the procedure.

The code I sent yesterday (think it was to group and not to graham
directly)
uses a cursor & I don't get that problem.
Works on SQL 2k and SQL 7 - what version are you using?
