David,

Thanks for the comment about "usually carries". Over the last 18
months,
we've discovered that people don't really want a stand-alone eTailer,
and that the mix of in-store and on-line activities, particularly those
involving high-ticket items is complex.

For example, there are a large portion of customers who want to research
on-line, but then want to shop in a traditional store because they still
feel uncomfortable typing in payment details.

Similarly, there are a large portion of customers who want the
reassurance of touching the goods, and getting a feel for things like
aesthetics and build quality, and will go in-store, but find the on-line
shopping process easier, and will go back home to place an order!

We're carrying out a lot of consumer research at the moment, in our
major brands, about how we inter-relate these things, and the
longer-term strategy is to move our web business back into the main
brand organisations and build a proper multi-channel retailing
experience for our customers.

Regards,

Mark Harrison
Head of Systems, eKingfisher

Thanks for the info from everyone who replied. I'll have a go with
these patch panels then.

A bit of final measuring and then it's under the floor to install it
all. That's definitely an encouragement to run more cable than I think
I'll ever need :-)

It would be handy if the web site had some sort of "store check"
to see
which branches stocked various things. Not a direct stock check, since
that would probably involve huge amounts of work, but maybe a
"normally
carries" database. I usually pass through Edinburgh about once a
month,
so if they stock these at any of the Edinburgh branches I could always
pick them up there.

Well, I'll be upping the quantities a bit very soon.

LOL, in the same vein, and re the XBox thread, please feel free to buy
F1 2002 for XBox, Gamecube or PS2 when they appear on the shelves of
your local games emporium in the next month or two :-))
