The congested bandwidth argument doesn't apply to RF as whole. To the 2.4 GHz range, yes, but not to RF as a whole.
[Keith Doxey] Yes it does. Find some space on the UHF TV band or the FM band around London or Manchester (and possibly other big cities). The Satellite bands are also quite congested but haved the advantage that the signals are microwave and the same frequencies can be used again at different locations on the Clarkes Belt.

Cat5 is great but not always practical. Most houses in the UK only have wireless systems as an option because laying cable is impossible or very unsightly. On this point, why don't all new homes come with Cat5 prewired? It's shockingly simple and so cheap.
[Keith Doxey] Many high end builders are now starting to install CAT5 in new builds but nowhere near enough

Just a quick aside, why does no-one use the privacy argument with DECT handsets but always does with wireless LANs?
[Keith Doxey] No idea. Wireless does have its place but its not the answer to everything and as I pointed out, it does have its shortcomings. It is VERY usefull where it is impossible or not practical to run cables as long as you are aware of its shortcomings

I refer to many previous postings extolling the virtues of CAT5 cable over RF connectivity.

RF's major benefit is No cable required but the devices need to obtain power from somewhere either expensive batteries or mains power via a cable.

RF's major drawbacks......
Congested bandwidth
lack of privacy
susceptible to interference.

Get the CAT5 cable installed and use WIRED solutions.
