Useless bit of info, the majority of houses in NZ have a pantry/larder and they all have a door mounted switch for the light.

I use one for my flurescent tube in the larder, works fine.

You could use one of these, along with a suitable light.
 
This is what I use in Node 0 to light the cupboard up when I open the door:
 
 
 
and it turns off when you shut the door, (I know this as I stood in the cupboard and checked, however I cannot prove that the fridge light works in the same way :-)
 
Do not use a fluorescent bulb with this, use a filament bulb...

Does anyone have any recommendations for a switch I could use for a light in my larder cupboard.
 
I basically want it to work like a fridge light but would operate a mains light?
