You download the software from www.ibutton,com, their is also an excellent
PDF file with a good description of the hardware and step by step setup
instructions for installing slush (ftp & telnet services with a nice
unix like command shell.)

You program it in java. To me this is it's biggest advantage but If you
don't know java it's obviously less so. 

You will also need a JDK for your desktop OS and a communications api. If
you are on windows you can get both of these from www.javasoft.com 

If java is not important you may be better off looking at the rabbit.
