Subject: RE: [ukha_d] WAP11
Problem
I
still have a problem.
I
came home and checked the original manual that came with AP and config
utils.
Both were the old versions. I downloaded the latest config utils and the
latest firmware and upgraded it. Everything went O.K.
Now
I wanted to start SNMP util. Ooops! Now asks for some password....Manual
says
that default one is "public", but doesn't work.
Back
to USB util, change password into something known.
Now
back to SNMP util.
Changed laptop IP into 192.168.1.251, AP is default
192.168.1.250.
Yellow link LED on AP is solid, ocasionaly blinking. Tried to ping
192.168.1.250, works O.K.
But
SNMP util cannot find AP. When I click on Find Access Point, it searches
and
finds it on 192.168.1.250. When I click on it, it asks for IP Address and
password and when I enter them, it starts Connecting... and comes
with "Access Point not found".
But
if I put wrong password it tells me that password is wrong, which means
that
it connects and checks the password.
Then
I said, O.K. let's put both my laptop and AP into my subnet, so I put
laptop
to obtain IP address from DHCP and AP as well. And, really, when I click
now
on Find Access Point, it finds it on 192.168.0.50. Next time on
192.168.0.166,
whatever IP address DHCP assignes. And I can ping it on those addresses.
However, still, when I click to Connect to it with SNMP util, it still
cannot
connect to it, still "Access Point not found" message.
In
the meantime I tried swapping cables, sockets, connecting directly to
switch
etc, but no difference.
O.K.
I thought, maybe SNMP util doesn't work for some reason, I still have USB
one.
I installed Orinocco card then. Followed instructions, everything went
smoothly.
Client manager shows me that it found AP and I'm on the network.
Went
through the flat, signal weakens, then back, it's full
again.
Now
I tried to see the network and I cannot connect to anything, pinged server,
doesn't work.
Checked ipconfig /all and see that I have address completely out of
range 168.0... something. TCP/IP settings are set to use DHCP.
Therefore I put ipconfig /renew, but after a while, it comes with
"DHCP
server not available"
But
DHCP server works fine on fixed network.
So
what should I do now?
I
start thinking that something is really wrong with AP.
Does
anyone have fixed network like me, using ICS and managed to connect AP to
it?
Cheers,
Nik

manual looks slightly different from what I got with AP, maybe
newer
version.
I think it's for the latest firmware (which I haven't yet
downloaded), but I
prefer to have fixed IP for things like server, my CM
router, the AP etc.
I will be changing the IP of the AP to match my
conventions (the
aforementioned list of devices all have IP's of
192.168.1.1 -
192.168.1.100).
That way, I always know I can connect
to
192.168.1.1 and know it's the main
server etc, for if/when dns &
stuff get screwed up......
>Unfortunatelly, I'm using ICS, which
uses it's own DHCP server, which has
it's own scope
(192.168.0.2-192.168.0.254).
>It's all hardcoded, so I cannot change
the scope to include AP's default IP
address.
That's okay, just
put the AP on 192.168.0.255 or .1 then!
I would have to use proper
DHCP server, but Microsoft doesn't support them
running together on the
same LAN. (although, I know that it's working).
Ah, this is where a
router comes in! Or use WinProxy or similar to act
as
firewall/dhcp/ICS device.
Easy to set up & get going.
Cheap
too......
