The wiring for the connectors dosn't provide power in the way that you
might think, I have been able to power the scanner I have using a
butchered cat5 cable.

The reason it's won't work as you've connected it is that the RS232 port
on PC's DOSN'T have power.

Hopefully we'll have more info later this week on the exact wiring of
the cable and what needs to be done to connect it to a PC.

There is some hope that it may be able to output to a keybaord port, not
just RS232.

More news when I've got it.
