Thanks for the offer Luc. I'm actually picking up a MAX233 later as I
understand

TBH, I've go no idea yet what the hell I'm supposed to do with it when I
get
it!
Anyone care to chime in with pointers, diagrams, links, a prayer?
Mark,
I have called Visonic UK to ask what the headers are, they said they didn't
know, if they did they wouldn't tell me anyway and I should buy an adapter!
I have also emailed the Head office in Israel, but I am doubtful they will
be
much help.
The most helpful response so far has been from Gardiner Security:
"i would use a max 232 and use the RS232 voltages to drive the IC. I
am not
sure what the pins are but i would start with zone 30 -ve is PCB ground and
one of those 4 pins must be the same. I suspect another is plus 5v and then
rx and tx to which you just swap around till it works!"
I'll see what other info I can dig up and let you know what happens.
Justin.(feeling very much out of his depth)

I have build a converter like this for aligning Sony monitors.
It uses a MAX232.
The PCB is approx 3 x 6 cm and has a DB9 for the COM
port. outputs are receive and transmit ( no other signals
are converted).
I can supply the schematic, PCB design .....
Luc.
