RE: AV Amps and video

Title: Message
But why bother if your AV amp will take care of all this for you anyway?
Fair enough I guess if you have a 4 grand DVD player & projector to match, but would the rest of us mere mortals really be that bothered by the _slight_ degradation in signal going thru an AV amp rather than direct to the TV?

Plus routing thru the AV amp means you can configure the amp with the on screen graphics - a must when said amp is in a dark cupboard so you can't see the amps own display!

In the future of course, all audio & video will be switched through KAT5 units, so the amp won't have to switch anything!

Surley the purpose of Home Automation is to automate the switching of Video and Audio and such things without needing to purchase expensive distribution amps.

With my pronto I can keep all in sync with no need to route video through my Denon 3801

A Video DISTRIBUTION amp does just that. Distributes a single source to multiple monitors/projectors/TV's

An AV amp takes Multiple video sources and switches them to provide one or more outputs.

A Video Crosspoint or Matrix Switch will take multiple outputs and route to multiple outputs, some also do Audio.

Having seen the various posts relating to the merits or otherwise of how to connect video through what is essentially an Audio device.

I have a Pioneer digital surround amp and seperate Pioneer DVD which are optically cabled together for Audio purposes and have notice the composite video connectors on the back, I carn't remember any other video connectors.

The question is WHY?

Surely  a video distribution amplifier would do the job better?

I have a spare Technics SA-EX310 AV Amplifier but no manuals got it cheap a few years ago, this also has video connections on and I wondered what for?
