I ws reading some hints and tips the other day, trouble is, I can't
remember
where.

However, some highlights:

Put plenty of flux on the pads.
Position to chip with tweezers and solder one corner pin. It said not to
add
any solder when doing this bit - so the board must be tinned.
Solder the other end of the same side in the same way.
When soldering the rest, put solder on the iron, not on the joint.
Put the bit on the track, move it toward the pin, then move it away. I
think
the idea is not to spend very long with the bit on the pin.
Do a few pins and let the device cool before carrying on.

Is this for the level shifters? Going to give us any clues as to what
you're
putting together? I got hold of a couple of DIP MAX233s as samples from
Maxim the other day that don't need any external components.
