Well, what I have found is the catnip software can pass the decrypted
stream
to a specifed
program *OR URL*

so, at this moment, I have a couple of Scan types set up for UPC Codes, so
that if anything is scanned, the program launches the URL
http://turing/homeserver/scan.asp?barcode=$1
This is just a little asp page
which displays the code just scanned, but it can (and will) include
database
code!!

No offence taken.
On another note - As apposed to using Girder, could you use the cats serial
number as a "hot key combination" to trigger an access database
and put you
in the right field depending on which cat you are using. My logic is: you
use cat serial number 12345 which is located at your cupboard to scan and
because of the serial, the database knows that the food/whatever scanned is
going into the cupboard and populates the table of "food in
cupboard". This
database could keep track of food *AND*/ its location.

This of course assuming Girder can't keep track of *where* the food is
being
kept.
