Have
adobe sorted out the multi processor issues with premiere - ie, it behaving
pretty much like it would in a single proc machine, execept less
stable?
Certainly no major speed improvement ISTR.....

If I need to
get
a job done quickly then it's Premiere by itself. In fact, I have a couple
of
machines that just sit there and render all day. Having two CPUs on my main
desktop also helps as I can give Premiere CPU 1 and leave CPU 0 for
everything
else.

Out of interest, surely you should run premiere on it's own to give
maximum memory and CPU to it when capturing/rendering? All these
other
appsa re bound to slow it down......

Essentially
it depends what you are going to be running a day to day basis. You right
on the 128 to 256 front ... that does make a big difference. Going past
that, it is down to what you will be doing with your
system.
I'm sitting
here with 1.5 GB of RAM under XP and sometimes even that isn't enough. But
I'm running Premiere, HomeSite, Photoshop, IE, PC Anywhere, Maya and
Outlook all at the same time; not your average user.
If you need
any more advice, let me know.

I know from experience that
upgrading from 128 to 256Mb makes a big difference to Windows XP
performance (especially if you tweak the cache settings). Does anyone
have personal experience (rather than anecdotal evidence) of going from
256 to 512?
Is it worth doing? The only
reason I ask is that I run a high FSB on my system, and as a result the
memory needed to do this (2700DDR RAM) comes in at just over a hundred
quid a stick).
