I've had a quick read, sounds like an intersting project. You mention that
the Acorn Risc Os machines don't use a PS/2 mouse, which is true for all
but
the latest machines. However Stuart Tyrrell makes a number of different
interface leads so that you can use normal PS/2 mice, so you could use
infrared mice.

http://www.stdevel.demon.co.uk -
the latest version of this doesn't appear
to be on his website, but is callled PS2MouseMini.

Re: Writing code to use the serial port, I can't help. I've done a fair
bit
of coding in my time on the Acorn, but not played to much with the Serial
or
Parallel ports. Theres lots of information on the net. I'd suggest you
post a message to one of the Acorn Newsgroups such as
comp.sys.acorn.networking. You could also try getting hold of a copy of
Acorn User Magazine http://www.acornuser.com. The person
to speak to about
interfacing is 'Mike Cook' who writes the hints and tips section for Acorn
User, and has created some seriosly wackey hardware a lot of which
interfaced to various Acorn Machine. He reminds me a bit of Keith Doxey,
not that I've met Keith, in that he knows far too much about electronics.

You post questions via http://www.smartgroups.com/groups/acornuser
