Thanks for the help Lee, Daniel, Andy, and Nikola.
I'm going to try changing the mailbox file location to be on the server and
point Outlook Express to it. If that doesn't work, I'll give SquirrelMail
a
look. I also like the idea of Favorites/Desktop/ etc. on the server.
A couple more questions:
I hope to have separate log-ins for me and SWMBO. Will using Win98 be a
problem
for any of this? I'm running Win98 on the server and Win98 / Win95 on the
clients.
Can homeseer capture an image from a PCI capture card or do I need other
software to do this? I have set up PJWebcam (see below) on another machine
to
capture and FTP images to my website. And no, you can't have the
address....
it's not ready yet.
A progress report:
I got my house talking to me last night - Homeseer read the weather
forecast to
me over my newly installed ceiling speakers. The PII-400 I bought off
e-bay
(for the server) arrived last night, and I'm working on getting it all set
up.
I hope it's got enough oomph to do everything.
The BIG Plans:
Server running Homeseer with audio in 2 rooms of the house (and voice
recognition in the future). Homeseer controls Lights, PIRs, garage door,
and
doorbell.
Server running Mercury and serving my and SWMBO's e-mail.
Server running PJWebcam with PCI capture card and uploading pictures to my
website (if Homeseer can't do it by itself)
Server doing barcode data using CueCat, readerware, and hopefully Keith
Doxey's
Shopping List software/database (this would get major points with the
SWMBO).
!! Get a Pronto !!
IR interface with the Homeseer computer.
Web interface to house controls and e-mail.
Roll my own Dallas One-Wire hardware interface to computer. PIC based.
You know, I actually had some free time before I started reading ukha_d....
