RE: LAN E-mail w/Outlook

Ok I got Mercury installed last night, took me 20 minutes....

>1) Access my e-mail from any computer on the LAN

It will let you do this.

>2) The e-mails would only viewed/sent from the client computer (not
stored
on
the client)

I do this using a shared drive for my user files, so all machines connect
to
one central PST file depending on who is logged on, - using profiles in
Windows...

>3) The saved e-mails (i.e "inbox") and the e-mail folders
would be stored
on
the server.

See above, I also have desktops / favourites / My documents stored on the
server, so that when someone logs on all their bits and pieces look the
same
on each PC...

4) M$ Outlook Express to be used on the clients?

The only thing I am not sure about is how OE stores the mail...

Outlook uses a PST file, and if you move or delete the original the next
time you open it it asks for the file location, so you can move the pst
file
for a user and then open outlook and every time thereafter it will at the
new location.

Subject: [ukha_d] LAN E-mail w/Outlook

Hi all,

I've been carefully following the thread on Mercury mail and am quite
interested
in setting this up. I've got a couple of questions though.

What I'd like it to do is:
1) Access my e-mail from any computer on the LAN
2) The e-mails would only viewed/sent from the client computer (not stored
on
the client)
3) The saved e-mails (i.e "inbox") and the e-mail folders would
be stored
on
the server.
4) M$ Outlook Express to be used on the clients?

To boil it down, I'd like to access the same e-mail account/mailbox from
different PC's preferably using Outlook Express.

I've read through the setup on http://mid.uk.com/mercury and think I
understand
it. Does this setup mean the e-mail is transferred to Outlook on the
client
computer? If I check e-mail from 2 different computers on the LAN, I would
have
2 different "inboxes" with different contents?

I already have multiple accounts set up on one of my computers for my and
SWMBO's e-mail addresses.

Thanks for the help,

Doug Woolridge
