sounds great but I was think more of a system that can report status and accept instructions from a PC or other system, the idea being that it would operate as a stand alone system with overrides from the home automation/security systems. This would allow (for example) the heating to be set back when the house alarm is in away mode and would give more flexibility than one of the 'standard' systems with regards shedules and remote operation.

There are two main reasons for retaining a system that will work without interfacing to a HA system as I see it....first if the property is sold just take out the interfaces and you have a bog standard UFH system...second if the HA system is down the UFH will still operate correctly although with limited functionality.

Sort of my own!
System consists of 17mm PEX/AL/PEX pipe used as UFH in screeded floors and same pipe to feed conventional radiators - all via manifolds with each zone controlled via actuator valves.  Each room with DS18S20 sensors and occupancy PIRs linked to HV.  Boiler and distribution valves controlled via HV outputs and actuator valves controlled via X10 relay board.
Downstairs I've fitted a 3 zone UFH manifold and an 8 zone distribution manifold - upstairs there's a 7 zone distribution manifold.
Not got all the sensors fitted yet, but so far I'm happy with the system.
Soon HV will control the heating dependant on time of day/year, external temp, house occupancy/room occupancy, guest mode etc...  well that's the theory :o)

I'm installing my own system at the moment controlled via HomeVision.

has anyone come across an underfloor heating system which can be controlled from a PC?

Several of the ones I have found have their own microprocessor control but no way to allow any external control from your own devices.
