cat5_ir

Hi All
Just enquiring about what sort of distance people are using cat5 with ir . Im doing some wiring for a friend whos building a 3 storey house and im a little concerned about my ir system working over 30 to 40m max on cat5 .

Is anyone also transmitting and recieving on the same cat5? Is it ok to do so?

Also my friend wants to put a video on in one room and be able to watch it in another room waht would be required ? i assume some sort of av switcher...
