Hi Ian,

Yes it is noisy. Was very noisy the first time the compressor started but
went quieter after a few minutes running.

I didn't get a manual with mine but there was some kind of thick padding
material, one with a rectangular cutout in the box. Don't know what they are
for but could be handy for sticking underneath the unit.
