Allows users on the network to browse the internet and use internet
based programs, ie. Microsoft Outlook, Netmeeting, etc, etc. It also
if
configured correctly can act as a firewall (in effect!). As it's a
web
the web proxy say you setup a 1GB Cache. If someone requests
www.microsoft.com and then another user comes along wanting the same
page it will return the cached page if www.microsoft.com hasn't
changed,
therefore not wasting bandwidth.

Can someone tell me in simple terms what a proxy server does and it's
benefit in the context of a small network i.e. less than 25 users
(assuming network size makes 1 iota's worth of difference)
