I have a Pace Digibox and a 2nd hand Sony I bought too.  I have tried
the
Sony's optical out and although I'm no audiophile the difference between
the
digital and analogue outputs into my amp is pretty noticeable.  The
digital
had much more bass too, sounds great on the music channels in
particular.
