Hi
Keyvan
I
dont
have SKY+ only normal SKY but the advice offered should still be
valid.
You
need to check the handbook to see if the SCART on SKY+ is capable of
outputing
S-Video. It may not be.
My DVD
player can do RGB or Composite via SCART, S-Video on MiniDin and Composite
on
Phono.
It
cant do RGB AND S-Video at the same time even though they are separate
sockets.
That
could be the case on SKY+.
You
need to use a fully populated SCART lead into an RGB SCART on your TV to
verify
that RGB is still being output when the S-Video socket is also in use. If
it is,
then you can safely buy the RGBtoSVideo converter. Alternatively you can
use
composite.
Have
you verified that the PC card is actually setup to input S-Video by using a
MiniDin to Minidin lead from your Denon amp to the PC.
Black
and White indicates one of two possible problems
1.
Source is Composite and Destination is expecting
S-Video
2.
Source is S-Video and Destination is expecting
Composite
Many
PC cards actually SHARE an input for Composite and S-Video as the black and
white part of an S-video signal is processed by the same video circuitry
internally. This means that even the correct type of signal for the
connector
can give the wrong results if the settings are wrong. I have 2 different
capture
cards and both have one input that is composite only, the other is either
Composite 2 or S-Video.
Hope
that helps

I have a Sky+ connected to a Sony 100 Mhz 32" tv
via
a Denon AV amp.
The Denon can output video signal on 1)component
video (best quality), 2)S-Video, 3)Composite
I have the S-Video output from the Denon feeding
the
Sony via a S-Video-to-Scart cable.
This works fine and gives me pretty good picture
quality.
I
also
have an Avermedia TV-PC capture card.
This card has RF, Composite, and
S-Video
inputs.
Here I have a cable which has S-Video
& phono stereo at one end and scart at the other. The scart is
connected
to the scart out from Sky+ (as the S-video out of the Sky+ box is feeding
the
Denon with sound output via the optical out).
I only get a B&W picture on my pc
card (the RF on the same card shows full colour). I think this is to do with RGB/scart to
S-Video
matching issues. Not really
sure!
I would like to be able to display output from the
Sky+ to my pc not only to watch, but to also allow me to to move
(record)
stuff already recorded on Sky+ to my pc for archive
etc.
Do I need to buy a proper active RGB
to
S-Video converter - like the one on the rgbtosvideo.com for £65 ?
If I buy a scart to composite cable, will I have
the
same problem? - I know the picture quality is likely to be not as
good with composite. But how much worse ?
While on the
subject:
So
what is a "S-Video capable" scart input? I presume the one on the Sony TV
as
the output from the Denon shows in full
colour.
Thanks in
advance.
