It's been around for AGES.  Been talked about for as long as I can rememeber being interested in HA.  Seems it's finally becoming commercially available in a decent range of products at last.
 
It's a hard-wired Bus system.  In comparison to X10 It should be much faster and very reliable, but hard to retro fit and expensive.  I have my house wired for a bus system with 2CAT5s to every lightswitch.  But majority of other existing houses will not be easily retro-fitted.  HV cannot "talk" C-Bus, but there's no reason to think it couldn't using HV Serial or whatever in the future.  I don't know whether C-Bus is an open standard or not.
 
I'm trying to get more pricing details.
