Gareth,
I
also
found some of the menu's to be very slow but since the software updated
yesterday it seems much better.
I
have
temporarily disabled auto recording of Tivo Suggestions after it failed
KWMBO
approval (Kid Who Must Be Obeyed). Tivo decided to record a program about
Napoleon (which I wouldnt have wanted anyway) and changed the Digibox off
CBeebies.
I
have
also reduced the number of channels we receive to those we actually watch
at the
moment to see if it stops the more obscure suggestions. It definately need
time
to learn our viewing patterns but have already decided that if money was no
object, it would be better to have One Tivo per Person. That way it can be
really customised and not get any soaps or talk shows on MY
Tivo.
I
have
also told it that BBC1, BBC2, ITV and Channel 4 are from terrestrial NOT
101,102,103,104 on SKY.
Sadly
as ITV Digital and Sky Digital are our only sources of Channel 5 it has to
record that from SKY 105.
It
would be really great if the VCR SCART could be used as a second decoder
input
and I could tell it that
Chan 5
= ITV Digital 5
CBBC =
ITV Digital 12 (or whatever it is)
CBeebies = ITV Digital 13 (or whatever it
is)
in otherwords the Free To Air digital stuff
was
>from
The other small niggle is having to use the
UHF
channel numbers for selection of terrestrial
channels
Selection by 1,2,3,4 would have been more
freindly but it is a minor point.
So far, I am VERY impressed by Tivo and the
only
advantage I could see from SKY+ is being able to record a second SKY
channel but
then you lose the first SKY channel when you play anything
back.
With a Second Digibox I can get a duplicate
package for £12 per month and watch 2 SKY channels at
once.
Mr Murdock would charge me £10 for SKY+ and
then
£12 for the second receiver. It wouldnt be so bad if there was an option
for a
lifetime SKY+ subscription as there is with
TiVo.
At the moment it's 3 presses on the GREEN
button
for me.
I HAVE had one failed Tivo
recording.....but
that was SKY's fault.... Selected BBC2 (102) and Tivo showed the SKY banner
for
BBC2 then the bloody digibox had one of its quirky moments and went to a
SKY
promotional channel. I have noticed that happening a lot recently... change
to a
channel then it jumps somewhere else...usually a promo for SKY+.
<CONSPIRACY
THEORY>
Not quite as subtle as
sublimal advertising

Keith
To be honest, after playing with it for 24hrs, Im not impressed. I've
already got Sky+ and it's sooo easy to use - nice and simple. By contrast,
the
TiVo is slow, cumbersome, and not very intuitive. And Im already having
problem with channel selections. grrr !
Even if it was free, I'm
still
not sure I would like it !
