When you buy you get program on CD and the registration codes via mail. There is also a large manual that arrived with mine. Updates are then done over the Web but must have the CD in the drive. I have never updated mine and am still on 5.2.0. There is a list of updates that releases have fixed (or broken) and none of these have affected me yet.

I decided against PCB pool for the relay boards and instead will go with One Way Circuits in the UK. The main reason is it looks as though I will have a fair number to make once the design is complete. PCB pool is best for small quantities. Also, with OWC there is no setup charge if I decide to have more boards made in the future making them that bit cheaper again.

Hi Ian
it was part number 585-292 in the April 2001 Australian version of catalogue. They cost  approx $6.00 about 2 pound + fifty pence each . Not as cheap as the standard 4n25 - 28 but necessary for the 38khz carrier. BTW  Ian i tried to purchase the schematic software on line and all i could see to purchase was the shareware stuff .? How did you go with the pcb pool people any joy ?

Great link for the 232 to 485 circuit. I have everything except the opto chips so I'm off to RS on Monday. What was the RS code for the chips you bought? I'm sure you mentioned it but cannot find it anywhere.

Thanks

Ian

Hi all
Just a quick update on the 8 Zone ir Transmitter prototype. Well high speed optos arrived yesterday
(friday afternoon) got home early from work so it was off to the shed . Who said electronics was fun ( i think i did) well it is but sometimes frustrating as well ,i couldnt get it to work, downloaded the data sheets from the manufacturer ,which to me was different from what RS had in their catalogue.
Anyway today was a lot better . Searched the web and found a schematic which used the opto im using.
Tried and bingo it worked . Have installed the opto and additional components into my prototype and tested with Homevision . Have saved ir signals from my tv and dvd eg vol up and vol down . All appears ok so the Home Vision signals are now all opto isolated... Next is finish schematics and send off to Ian B for acrobat conversion and then hopefully on my site....

Frank Mc

ps the circuit i looked at was a PC  (rs232) to RS485 opto isolated FULL DUPLEX CIRCUIT. It even had a picture of the pcb .
