you have just described the diagram I drew at about 2am this morning, or at least the N to C bit and the +/- wiring. I was still struggling with where to put the resistor but you have now clarified that and I even understand why! Thanks for the clear and concise explanation:)

you can easliy add extra PIR's. The N/C on the PIR stand for Normally Closed. This means the nc contacts when no movement is detected are shorted together. Because N is link to + then the input to the card will see + volts as normal. When movement is detected the n/c become open circuit. Now instead of + volts to the input it is linked via the 10K pull down resistor to GND and the input will see 0 Volts.
 
If that didn't make sense then just wire the PIR's like this......
 
Remove the resistor and put it between the +in on the card and GND.
 
all + to +volts
 
All - to GND
 
Wire the first PIR C to the + Input of the card.
 
Wire the N to the next PIR C terminal.
 
Keep wiring like this with N of the previous PIR to C of the next PIR.
 
On the last PIR in the chain link the N to + volts.
 
All the N/C's have now been wired in series, so if any PIR trips the circuit is broken and the Input will go to 0 Volts.

I think you could well be right, the diagram I have for this shows only one PIR connected which would support that view.
 
I will have a play with it tomorrow and see if I can work out what is going on, if not I will be looking for more help!

    Just one quick note . You only require One RESISTOR in an alarm panel and it normally goes to the furthurest pir hence end of lin resistor. Maybe this resistor is just a pull down resistor?

thanks for the response yup there are 4 terminals on the pir (or 6 if you include tamper) C + and - are wired as shown with N being linked to + so only 3 wires actually leave the PIR
 
Just to point out this is not an alarm control panel it is a linux box with special ports and I think it is going to need some non standard wiring.
 
 
I will try and get my head around how it operates as I want to try running about 3/4 pirs per input to have a try at room occupancy detection.

            Normally with an alarm panel there is an END OF LINE resistor connected in series with the alarm contacts AT THE PIR. Normally to add an extra pir you would just series the contact wires at the control box . Your explanation only mentions 3 wires,you would need 4 i believe . Have you got 4 wires at your pir? The tampers are series as well.

I am trying to wire up a number of PIRs to a Linux box which has specific digital inputs similar to homevision.
 
All works fine for a single PIR however I want to wire several on a single input so that any of the pirs triggering will trigger the input and also I want to wire the Tamper contacts in a similar way on a seperate input.
 
For a single PIR I have.....
 
Input               PIR
In+     to           C
+12    to            +
GND  to             -
 
In- on the input is linked to GND on the input
+ on the PIR is linked is linked  N on the PIR
and finally there is a 10k resistor between - on the PIR and C on the PIR
 
This all works fine but can someone please explain how I add additional PIRs?
