Re: SliMP3 Ethernet MP3 Player

Pretty big collections.  Mine is not that big, somewhere between 2 and three thousand tracks.  No problem.  There have been various discussions about turning off a scan feature to improve performance, but it means you cant do searhes on ID3 tags.
The latest level of the server component allows multiple SliMP3s to be synced together so as you walk from roo to room you hear the same track without duplication or missing sections.  If I remember right then playlists are limited to around 1000 tracks before they get too big, this may no longer be a problem either as they tend to be very responsive with problems.  The info on the player is at www.slimdevices.com.  They are real helpful, before and after sales. The guy I dealt with is Sean Adams.  For your info, I'm running the server on a K6-2 500 and when both players are running the SliMP3 server uses about 12-14% cpu.  I hear no apparent chopping in the music, and I've tried three PCs playing MP3s, the two SliMPs and two of the PCs were surfing the web as well, all via the server which only has a 10Mb NIC, and provides my shared access to the web as well as serving my MP3s.

If you've got any questions feel free to ask.  I've got no links with the company other than (As you might guess) I've very pleased with the players.

regards, robin
