Actually (and please correct me if I am wrong) I've just done some 
calculations on the current draw for my 1 in 8 out box...

     If I take the voltage difference as 1.3 v
then:

     5v - 1.3v = 3.7

     3.7/3900 = 0.0009

     0.0009 x 9 (8 emitter 1 visible ) = 0.0081

     = 8.1mA

which is pretty good considering.. and at 0.0009 for each emitter I 
should get roughly 64.8ma for 72 leds...
