It's only available for terrestrial broadcasts, I don't even think all 5
of the channels support it. Its a UK specific feature I'm pretty sure,
so extra R&D over the US box. Plus most importantly, Tivo works by
knowing things and planning in advance...... It knows what is on the TV
with exact start and stop times, and it knows which programmes you want,
so everything can be planned out for how much disc space will be free at
a certain point based on current recordings......

If you have 2 programmes recording one after the other and the PDC thing
said "I've not finished yet", then the other programme may be
missed...... but what if the PDC doesn't say its finished for another 3
hours...... all your recordings afterwards go to hell..... :( I used PDC
once on a VCR I got when it first came out years ago.... I remember
setting it for something and it recorded 3 minutes then stopped..... I'm
sure others have had more positive experiences though!

Best thing from experience with the (mainly BBC) evil intentional
mis-scheduling, is to pad the end by a few minutes..... this can make
Tivo cancel another programme, but it will tell you when you schedule
it....... you can then decide whether to go ahead with it, or schedule
it to pick up a rerun when there aren't run-togethers.
